Academic hiring procedures are complex matchmaking exercises, where both sides typically do not know in the beginning if they will ever fit, and both sides need to find out what the best fit could be. In the end, a life-long (20-30 years) association might result. The procedures are formalized, and rather similar in most German universities. In this workshop we will have time to discuss the key elements of hiring procedures, do's and dont's, purely based on 25 years of experience of the consultant (a chemist) as an applicant, as member of hiring committees in universities and research institutions, as dean of faculty, and as president of the ADUC ("Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Universitätsprofessor(inn)en Chemie"). Bring any cv's, cover letter drafts, materials, and of course any questions you might have.
