Emmy Noether Forum: Responsible Science in a Changing Security Context

How do current geopolitical developments affect international research collaborations? What responsibilities do researchers have when dealing with security-related research? And how should the research community navigate the changing relationship between scientific openness and security?

The Emmy Noether Forum brings together leading representatives of German research policy and the Emmy Noether community for an open discussion on these questions.

Following a keynote by Katja Becker (President of the DFG), Britta Siegmund (DFG Vice President and Chair of the Joint Committee on the Handling of Security-Relevant Research) and Ferdi Schüth (Director at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and member of the Joint Committee on the Handling of Security-Relevant Research, representing the German Science and Humanities Council) will join the panel.

Rather than a traditional panel discussion, the forum invites active participation: Two open chairs on the podium allow Emmy Noether researchers to join the discussion throughout the evening, contribute their own perspectives and experiences, and engage directly with the speakers. Ahead of the event, participants are invited to share their views via a short Slido survey (link tba). The results will be incorporated into the moderation and serve as starting points for the discussion.
