Many researchers warn that research assessment practices have become too numbers-focused and too narrow. The consequences of such practices include failing to identify great science, putting researchers under undue pressure and setting problematic incentives. Recently, this warning has led to the foundation of the CoARA (Coalition on Reforming Research Assessment) of which the DFG is a member. The workshop covers the debate, introduces the CoARA and invites you to a discussion on what can be done to ensure that research assessment is broad-based, qualitative and fair.
